DECREE

In joyful celebration of the "Pauline Year," marking the 2000th anniversary of the birth of the "Apostle to the Gentiles," and in conformity with the decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary of 10 May 2008, I, Walker, by the grace of God and the favor of the Holy See, Bishop of Sioux City, do hereby extend to all the faithful of the Diocese of Sioux City the Holy Father’s promise of a Plenary Indulgence, either for oneself or, by suffrage, to the souls in Purgatory, for all those who complete the following meritorious acts, out of a spirit of pious devotion and faith:

bulletReceive the Sacrament of Penance with true repentance, and
bulletReceive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist, and
bulletPray for the intentions of the Holy Father within the duration of the Pauline Year, and
bulletMake a pilgrimage, including silent reflection, the Lord’s Prayer, a Profession of Faith, and an appropriate invocation to The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Paul, to either:
bulletThe papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome; or
bulletOne of the designated pilgrimage sites within the Diocese of Sioux City (see below).

For those prevented from travel by illness, age, or other legitimate reason, they may undertake, before the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29, 2009), a "spiritual visit" in the desire of their heart to one of the above places.

The designated pilgrimage sites of the Diocese of Sioux City are:

bulletTrinity Heights, in Sioux City;
bulletThe parish church of Saints Peter and Paul, in West Bend;
bulletThe parish church of St. Paul, in Scranton;
bulletThe Cathedral of the Epiphany, in Sioux City.

May the gracious intercession of St. Paul, St. Peter and all the Holy Apostles, and of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Joseph the Worker, patrons of our Diocese, aid us to overcome our faults and weaknesses and to endure steadfastly in the "one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic" faith in this life.

Given from the Chancery of the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, on this 21st day of July in the year of our Lord 2008, in witness whereof:

Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless
