Sacred Heart Parish, Ida Grove Kayla Zobel, daughter of Kim and Sheila, was the valedictorian of the Battle Creek-Ida Grove graduating class. She also received the Governor's Scholarship recognition. *Katie Hummelgard, daughter of Duane and Lauri, was the recipient of a basketball scholarship from Kirkwood Community College at Cedar Rapids, where she will be attending this fall. St. Patrick Parish, Sheldon Katrina Bart won third place in the Catholic Daughter of America State Education Contest. The theme Katrina chose to write her essay about was the "People Who Light Up My World." Her essay reflected how her family is so special to her and the many ways they light up her life. Katrina was presented with a certificate of recognition from the State CDofA and a monetary award. To present her award to her were Sheldon's Court Bernadette 189, Past Regent, Marlyss Bauman and the education chairperson, Gladys Brinkman. Katrina is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Tony Bart of Sheldon. They are all members of St. Patrick's Parish in Sheldon. Sacred Heart Parish, Spencer Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #408 of Spencer honored the winners of their education contest at their spring meetings. The fourth, fifth and sixth graders from Sacred Heart made posters this year. The theme was "Jesus the Light of the World" or "People who Light up my World." The fourth and fifth grade winners were first place - Taylor Wiemers, daughter of Randy and Elli Wiemers of Spencer; second place - Sara Bauermeister, daughter of Kurt and Karen Bauermeister of Spencer; and third place - Josie Schipper, daughter of Dave and Alissa Schipper of Spencer. The sixth grade winners were first place - Andrew Noah, son of Rich and Amy Noah of Spencer; second place - Rachael Getting, daughter of Dan Getting of Spencer and Kay Thayer of Emmetsburg; and third place - Kari Kramer, daughter of Todd and Jill Kramer of Spencer. The first place posters were sent on to state. |
