Long-range planning effort to enhance Catholic schools

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sioux City have a strong tradition. The reason these schools have been so effective is their commitment and understanding of their mission within the Church. Catholic schools exist to transmit the faith to the next generation of Catholics and to help these students develop their personal gifts from God whether they are in the form of academics, extra-curricular activities or the development of their character. In this manner our schools serve our parish as one of our strongest evangelization tools.

To continue this mission, the Diocese of Sioux City has entered into a long range planning effort to enhance our schools. We strive to build upon our current strengths in Catholic Identity and Academic Excellence constantly striving to help our students stretch to new heights. We also are facing new challenges in the areas of enrollment and finances. As with past generations, we intended to work as a community to find the best ways to approach these challenges and move forward with our mission.

I strongly believe that through this collaborative process, our schools and our diocese will continue to benefit from the presence of Catholic schools. As Catholics in the “universal” Church we know that God will provide us with the guidance and opportunities to succeed in this mission. The onus now falls onto us as a community to find these paths and resources and develop them into the resources of the future.

Sincerely brother in Christ,

Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless
Bishop of Sioux City
