2010 Diocesan Annual Appeal concludes
Nearly reaches $1.5 million goal

The 2010 Diocesan Annual Appeal (DAA) reached its conclusion this month with 98 percent of the goal being reached.

As of mid-June, $1,459,758 had been contributed towards a $1.5 million goal.

“This is certainly in line with what has been raised in previous years,” said Heather Marreel, development and marketing coordinator at the Diocese of Sioux City. “Given the economic struggles some of our communities have been dealing with over the past several months, we consider this year’s campaign to be a great success.”

Over 13,000 parishioners throughout the diocese donated to this year’s campaign. Of the 113 parishes within the diocese, over half of them - 68 parishes - made and even exceeded their local goal.

“Each parish is given an individual goal based on their number of registered households,” said Marreel. “To see so many parishes surpass their goal is very exciting.”

Of the $1.5 million raised through DAA, over $800,000 is redirected back to the parishes to support various ministry programs such as religious education programs and Adult & Family Ministries. Additionally, $100,000 is designated each year towards Catholic Charities’ offices located throughout the diocese. The rest of the funds are used to support diocesan offices and services such as Personnel & Benefits, Office of the Tribunal and Archives & Records.

“The Diocesan Annual Appeal permits our faithful of the Diocese of Sioux City to join their efforts with that of others and permits us to make a greater offering to the Lord and His work in Northwest Iowa,” said Bishop Walker Nickless. “DAA allows us to undertake efforts that could overwhelm us individually and draws us to stand in solidarity with each other in our efforts to build up the kingdom of God.”
